Art Cards for Babies

Step away from the laminator and scissors...

As a Montessori teacher and mother I understand the importance of supporting a child's specific developmental needs. I equally understand the pressure that we, as parents, can feel and how overwhelming it can all be, at times.

Newborns can only focus about eight to twelve inches from their face, and they see only black, white and grey.  So, when my first little girl was born I wanted to buy some flash cards with repeating patterns in black and white, but found them impossible to source.

As a teacher, I have a very close relationship with my laminator so thought, in my sleep deprived state, that I'd attempt to make some, in between feeding, changing and winding my new arrival. This seemed like a great plan (did I mention the sleep deprivation which, in hindsight, was clearly affecting my judgement?)

Needless to say the results were not Pinterest worthy, nor frankly were they safe, with their sharp corners! Another thing they were not was long lasting as I had greatly underestimated the strength of a baby once they learnt to grab.
